I haven’t had much to report in the last month or so, but I have been working on the OLAG website. In fact I recently posted our first “Showcase Artist” – Marsha Ralston. I worked with her to write an artist statement and submit her work, and Annette, the Public Relations Coordinator, took photos of her at the latest show.

I think the other board members and I are really starting to get the hang of things. We aren’t exactly a well oiled machine… yet, but things are certainly running a lot smoother.

This weekend is the opening reception for the latest OLAG show. I put three pieces in the show to be judged, including my two newest collages that I recently posted. Also we are going to choose a showcase artist among the winners at the reception for the website. I’m hoping to get some photos of the artist and winning pieces for the website, along with a show bio or artist statement. Wish me luck!!

Tonight at the OLAG monthly meeting I’m going to present the new documents, badges, and membership cards that I’ve created with the new logo. It’s been a slow process since most of the current documents are hard copy only, and I’ve been doing them one at a time as the need arises.

I’m happy to report that the Oak Leaf Artist Guild website is in the completion stage. Translated: means that pending some very minor changes and any audits that the guild may have, it’s finished! Again I want to thank my wonderful husband for all his hard work in building the site for us!

This means that from here on out most of the work will be from the other guild members as they start to create their own accounts and upload the images for their galleries. I can’t wait to see what everyone posts!!

This weekend I was able to put OLAG on the back burner and concentrate on my new painting series, and despite it being Mother’s Day weekend I made a fair amount of progress. I might have even completed the first piece, I’m undecided, and I started two more. I also did some work on the collage, though it’s slow going. Hopefully, I’ll have images to post soon.

OLAG Website:
I’ve been working on it and it’s coming along nicely. Jesse hopes to have the gallery basics by the end of the week, and I’ve been working on adding content and getting the pages all put together. I should have something that resembles a real website to show the group this Thursday at the meeting.

Children’s Book:
I haven’t had much time to work on it, but I did get a chance to write a bit more. There is still a third or so of the writing left to do; including the ending which hasn’t been conceived yet. I bought some illustration board to get started, but haven’t started any of the artwork yet.

Collage:
Unfortunately, this weekend I made negative progress when I had to tear off part of a few of the collaged images. I think it’s coming along better now, but I have a way to go before I’ll be satisfied.

New Painting Series:
I started the first in a series of abstracts I intend to do for upcoming shows. I’m debating if I want to put animals in them. I love painting them, and it always makes for an odd atmosphere in the paintings that I love.

I spent most of the weekend at Framations for the Spring Art Walk. There was a ton of wonderful artwork; particularly Suzanne Lowry’s photography series of wooden figures. I think they would make a wonderful children’s book! It was interesting to watch and see how other artists work their magic with potential customers. It’ll be a while before I’m comfortable on my own, but I’m making progress thanks to the bunch at Framations.

The whole experience got me thinking about art, and excited to go home and paint. Which is just what I did, I finished two pieces last night and I have a third on the way! I also had an idea for a new painting series, I’ll post more information and images soon!

And, I haven’t forgotten about the children’s book or the OLAG website. I’ve been looking at publishing options to determine what size to make the illustrations for the book. I’m leaning toward a square format, but I’d like it to be hardcover and most places don’t seem to do them in square. Then I was looking at the soft cover and they just don’t seem as substantial as the hardcovers.

OLAG website: as you can see by the sample below of what the page will look like, we are making really good progress.

The OLAG meeting last night went very well, there was a great turn out and the presenter was fun and personable. I was also able present and get feedback on the new logo designs (see below).

After the last post with the logo samples I got to wondering how they would look on top of the one of the new website headers. I wasn’t sure what I thought, so what you see below includes one of my original favorites and some new ones.

The majority chose the second one, also my original favorite.

I received word that all of my pieces for the Puppies are Biodegradable Show have been chosen to go and be shown at Humane Day in Jefferson City next week!

As promised below are some of the designs I’ve been working on for Oak Leaf Artist Guild website header. I wanted to go with bold colors in a Fall color scheme to reflect the colorfulness of the artwork while still keeping the namesake ‘oak leaf’ in mind.

Please keep in mind that these are working examples meant to show direction rather than finished product. The square symbol to the right of each design is the placeholder I mentioned in a previous post for a logo. I have been working on a real logo for the guild as well.
