At the opening reception Saturday “Camel” won Third Prize!  There was a lot of great work, and I even managed to mingle a bit.  It’s definitely getting easier, I feel more confident each time I enter a show.

The craziness has slowed a little, enough so that I was able to submit a couple of paintings and a drawing for the “A Few of My Favorite Things” show. Since I didn’t have the frames finished, I painted the edges and exposed raw canvas then attached the wire hanger to the canvas supports. The end result looks ok, and shouldn’t count against me too much.

I bought what I thought was two sets of two white painted wood molding in eight foot pieces – for frames. Unfortunately, when I opened the package I discovered that they were not the same molding, but two totally different pieces; and that they were not actually wood but vinyl. I tried to make it work, I cut the angles for the frames, but because there weren’t four matching lengths of molding I didn’t have enough to finish. Not to mention that the vinyl doesn’t want to be glued together, and wont hold a staple. Now I have to go back to the hardware store, buy another package of mis-matched molding, and find a glue that works.

February is the month of birthdays! This weekend along with celebrating my mom’s birthday I plan on taking a trip to the hardware store and pricing a wood ceiling project for my basement. I also need to pickup some wood and build some frames for the pieces I’m going to enter in the “Few of My Favorite Things” show next week.

Last night at the Oak Leaf Meeting Ken Martin, a local artist, did a demonstration that has me wanting to run out and do some Plein Air painting. I’m not normally one to be inspired by landscape, but I find that I am right now.

Due to a size restriction the two paintings in my last post will not be eligible for the upcoming show. I may still enter a couple of my drawings, but at this point I’m focusing on framing the work for the first show.

On another note: This excerpt was taken from this month’s Oak Leaf Newsletter: “Mollie Chounard won three awards in the Art-A-Lot show at the St. Peters Community and Art Center. She won Best of Show, and Second AND Third Place in the Painting/Drawing Category.“
