Knight Progress (continues)

Mollie December 27th, 2006 Painting , Show Comments(4)

With Christmas over I can finally get back to work; unfortunately, with the deadline two weeks away I don’t think I’m going to be able to finish both of the paintings I had hoped to enter. As an alternative to the second painting I’ve started another drawing to take it’s place, something that I can do in stolen moments here and there.

Meanwhile, I started re-working the right animal face and added her costume. I still have a lot to do, including making a frame and hanging it ugh! Wish me luck, inspiration, and most importantly motivation!!!

“Knight” progress

Mollie December 20th, 2006 Painting , Show Comments(0)

I wish I could say I’ve made a lot of progress on “Knight” but Christmas has put a wrench in the works. I am happy to say, that as of last night I’ve officially finished all my Christmas shopping; and will have a more time to focus on getting everything ready for the upcoming show.

Below are pictures of my progress on “Knight,” which consists of re-working the left figures clothing again (I may need to make adjustments to the color as I get further in); and I added the right animal head. Clearly I have a lot to do before I can call it done, but I’m hoping I have enough basics to make it come together without too much trouble.

To do list:

1. Tone down the right animal head. Add clothing and a base. 2. Brighten the left animals head, and add a base. 3. Add more yellow/gold to bottom half of knight. 4. Work on background, possibly a trellis with flowering vines, I’m open to ideas.

Since I mentioned my self assigned project (see last post) for The Oak Leaf Artist Guild, I thought I would show off a few of the designs I did for their website.

Type E Procrastination

Mollie December 14th, 2006 Note Comments(0)

I’ve been a busy little bee working to get my “About me” page up and running the last couple of days. I’ll undoubtedly be making changes from time to time, but it’s starting to look like a real website LOL. I only have the gallery page and store to get through before the site is fully functional!

On another note: Tonight is the member meeting for Oak Leaf Artist Guild, (I joined a couple months ago, and I’m trying to help them update their website) and I wanted to have some samples of existing websites and some new designs to show the other members; but I’m not ready.

I’m a type E (for eccentric) procrastinator: I get all encompassingly focused and obsessed at the start, but towards the end of a project the spark dwindles along with my enthusiasm. As the deadline approaches, I’m nearly complete, but end up scrambling around at the last minute to finish.

Knight progress

Below is the painting I referred to the other day titled “Knight.” I started this painting in college, unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of it before starting re-working it. As it is the only thing that is original is the figure on the right. I’ve redone the knight and the left figure (which needs work). My challenge is getting everything to appear to go together and work out the obvious composition issues. This painting is very vertical, so I’ll need something to break that up a little.  Note:  the photo is horrible, try to look past the huge glare, and lack of defined detail.  The next photo will be better, or I’ll scan it in a section at a time and piece it together.

Development

Mollie December 12th, 2006 Note Comments(0)

I’ve designed a few websites for myself, but none that didn’t need help from my husband or a web-builder program to build and maintain. A while back my husband encouraged me to read a book on html, though I must confess that my retention of the information is not great. It was completely foreign to me, and still is, but I’m learning.

This weekend I learned about CSS stylesheets in respect to building this site. Thanks in part to my husband and a great feature of Firefox (the greatest web browser ever) I was able to do a lot of the CSS code editing to create this journal page. I feel very accomplished, and am eager to learn more.

Upcoming show “Art A Lot”

Mollie December 8th, 2006 Mixed Media , Painting , Show Comments(0)

There is an upcoming show called Art A Lot that I’m working toward. The subject is one near and dear to me – Medieval/Renaissance. I’ve been captivated by the aesthetics of Armor and architecture since, well, I can remember when. The deadline is the first week of January, so I’m in a rush to finish three pieces before then. One of the pieces called “Knight” has been a work in progress since college; representing the holy grail of my aesthetic. It has intimidated me for years, but I’m determined to finish it for this show. I’ll have pics of it in progress soon.

Another picture titled “Chivalry” is a mixed media piece that I’ve have been wanting to re-work for a while, but haven’t had the chance. This show is a great motivator. Below is a picture of it before any re-working.

Diamonds

Mollie December 7th, 2006 Drawing , Pen & Ink Comments(2)

New drawing “Diamonds” (for lack of a better name). Pen & Ink on paper, 8.5×11. I’m happy with the building in the bottom right corner, but the castle on the left isn’t good. There are flaws in perspective on the dome that I can’t fix without major surgery LOL.

As my first official post I want to thank my wonderful husband Jesse for his help setting up this site; it was his inspired idea to link my artist journal and website.
